Bannon, Carlson and... Liz Truss? A Look Inside the Ex- PM's Audition for Maga
Britain's shortest-serving prime minister, launched the first edition of her video series with a promise to reveal "those with ill intent" working to undermine the UK, United States and European nations. Truss elaborated she would uncover how an "worldwide alliance of progressives work to weaken democracy and the electorate's mandate."
"We will examine the Maga phenomenon and see how it can be replicated in Britain," she said. "We'll be talking to the leading lights of the Make America Great Again campaign."
Before the program's debut, there was a notably ardent backer. "This represents the dawn of a type of transformation," stated the controversial US journalist. His conservative media outlet Just the News will carry the former prime minister's new broadcasts.
Establishing Ties in the Maga Media Ecosystem
British fellow travellers, including a pro-Reform adviser, have also helped her establish the Truss's program. Its staging is adequate, if basic. She has gathered 10,000 subscribers in her first week and her premiere had 67,000 views during that week.
It is a modest start, but in making common cause with the journalist, the former PM is being entering a well-developed conservative ecosystem generating and disseminating pro-Trump narratives. Its obsessions encompass accusations of information control by the mainstream media and a aim to remove a conspiratorial 'deep state' – which she attributes her downfall to for the swift end of her disastrous time in office.
"The platform is not well-known past the Maga world, but it does have gravitas there, primarily thanks to John Solomon, who provides analysis on pro-Trump shows like Bannon's 'War Room' podcast and has even spoken with Trump," noted an anthropology expert, who has analyzed the Trumpist political wave.
A Controversial Partner
Truss's attempt to import the pro-Trump media model to the United Kingdom has pushed her closer to divisive personalities such as the journalist.
He established Just the News following criticism when allegations surfaced of circulating inaccurate reports about the President's actions in Ukraine, as well as controversial stories about the former US ambassador to the region.
These allegations were repeated within the pro-Trump outlets, with he featuring as a frequent visitor on the widely-watched Fox News show. Donald Trump boosted his stories.
The journalist published the allegations regarding Ukraine in a series of columns for the political newspaper the Hill, after having been re-designated as an opinion writer following internal criticism over his articles. His narratives were key in Trump's pressure for the Ukrainians to look into the Biden family in 2019. These actions culminated in articles of impeachment against the president. The Senate later found not guilty the commander-in-chief.
Not long after Solomon left the newspaper in late 2019, the publication announced it was performing a review of his work concerning Ukraine. It concluded Solomon had relied on questionable informants and said he "omitted important details about main Ukrainian informants, specifically the fact that they had been indicted or were being probed."
Becoming Part of the Sphere
His media appearances are a example of the right-wing media network Truss is entering. Solomon mentioned his endorsement of the program on a program he presents on the conservative cable network, a conservative television outlet that is home to the conservative firebrand former adviser Steve Bannon and on which former Fox host Tucker Carlson also is seen. Truss has already interviewed the political operative on an early episode.
In linking up with this media figure, Truss has become a minor player in a much wider network of conservative media outlets that often amplify each other's content.
The journalist's broadcasts have repeatedly hosted individuals such as Mike Benz, a conservative commentator whose arguments against the US Agency for International Development was referenced by the tech billionaire as justification for dismantling the government body.
A Cross-Border Foray
While the former PM's unnatural presentation and political travails have been mocked at home, certain American analysts do not dismiss her efforts to reinvent herself as a local version of the pro-Trump media ecosystem.
"One must regard folks like that seriously, although you may not want to accept their words at face value," commented Rob Flaherty, who served in the Obama White House.
"Observers witnessed how in 2024 Donald Trump used that ecosystem to get his message out. Without a doubt that ecosystem transmits and affects debate abroad. It looks fairly obvious to me that the circumstances in the UK are comparable to what allowed this alternative media ecosystem to prosper in America."
a political theory expert, said the online conservative ecosystem was already making its presence felt in Britain.
"Online platforms is borderless," he stated. "There is a certain atmosphere within which stuff flows – sometimes taking an extreme form and occasionally in softer tones – but which is networked."
Professor Hinton said the growth of the digital conservative movement in the UK recently meant the "potential to have a increasing influence is significant."
Cross-Atlantic Aspirations
"The former PM and Nigel Farage not long ago spoke at the the major conservative conference, where I saw they echoed Maga talking points prior to the {king of Maga|
