One Manchester side boasts an non-professional vets squad with 9 former Premier League footballers in their active squad.

222 Premier League Scores, 325 Global Appearances

The team Veterans Over 35s are situated in southern Manchester and play in the Cheshire-based Vets League Top Division.

Their squad list this season features 9 ex- top-flight footballers, with a collective over 1,800 Premier League matches.

This high-profile roster also includes 222 Premier League goals and 325 international caps.

The squad include one forward, who scored 37 scores in 117 games for Newcastle United after joining them for £9m from German league side SC Freiburg in January 2012.

He had his debut for Wythenshawe in their last home-field match against reigning champions their rivals and scored every one of the six scores in a 6-2 victory - including a half-hour first-half triple.

Well-Known Figures and International Stars

Stephen Ireland began playing for the side during preseason this season through close mate and present Wythenshawe player Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland player then asked other former professionals, who all play in a weekly nine-a-side game, to join in.

Former Senegal forward Oumar Niasse, who scored twelve scores in 65 Premier League games for Everton and even now attends their matches at Goodison Park, also made his first appearance versus Collegiate OB - who are based in the city and wear an Everton warm-up gear as their uniform.

"My mate Stephen Ireland told me 'join and play, it's a laugh'," commented Niasse.

"After that he told me we were playing a team from Liverpool and the surprise I had when I noticed them sporting Blue kits - I thought this is strange for me!

"If you still love football and you know you can still do it, wherever you can play, what are you going to choose?

"Those people who turn up and see are happy and to give someone's day if they see us competing there and to pose us queries - it's more like the joy of us getting a place we can enjoy football, with organisation of course."

Such is the strength in depth at the club, Niasse made his first game at defender.

"That's a bit unusual but then, I love sprinting and just go inside - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"The running is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

'Surreal Feeling

Along with Cisse's six goals on his first game, Ireland has netted eight in three games for the side, while George Boyd scored 5 on his first appearance and Joleon Lescott, a defender by trade, scored a triple in one game up front.

The team are top of the Top Division with three victories from three and a goal difference of plus nineteen.

One opponent, thirty-eight, who features on the flank for Collegiate OB, came up against former Latics full-back Maynor Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his nine-year-old boy who Heskey was.

He has appeared at two global tournaments for Honduras, in as well as featuring in over 200 Premier League games.

"It was going round like wildfire they had these ex-Premier League players," remarked the player.

"I think I was a bit starstruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's got 60-odd England appearances.

"Our side competed well for a good 20 minutes but then we had a player dismissed and it was hard.

"Our group really have not stopped chatting about it - I was calling my mum and brother on the journey home.

"The opponents were all friendly, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a group of regular guys.

"Now we are eager for the second fixture."
